Getting Someone You Like

peach, fruit, hands

“You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there's still going to be somebody who hates peaches.”

Dita Von Teese

Yes, that somebody is me 😉 I hate peaches. In the very literal sense. But no, I am not the general hater we may be referring to in this quote. My dislike for peaches does not make them faulty or damaged in any manner. It’s just that someone simply cannot like all fruits. It has nothing to do with peaches personally.

Well, that’s exactly what this quote is about. Everyone simply can’t like everyone and everything else. But, that does not mean the disliked object or a person has something lacking in them.

No matter what we do someone is going to like it, and someone isn’t. We cannot change ourselves to try and fit the bill to get everyone to like us because that isn’t going to happen anyway. I was a huge people pleaser and I wanted everyone to like me. Guess what? My bubble burst. Everyone could not like me and could not agree with every action I took. Because that is practically impossible. I would go out of my way and do things to please others – neither would I end up pleasing others, and more importantly – nor would I please myself. Now, I stop, look deep inside my heart and understand what it wants – and then go for it. Of course, this differs from and depends on situation to situation.

Let’s talk about a common concern amongst teenagers and youngsters – something we are all way too familiar with – crushes! “What do you call it when your crush has a crush on you? ……..

Think…. Think…. Think….

Imagination.”

From this perspective, often times, when we have a crush on someone but they don’t like us back, we batter ourselves about it and think there is something lacking in us.

From this perspective, often times, when we have a crush on someone but they don’t like us back, we batter ourselves about it and think there is something lacking in us. We can feel so much better about ourselves if we realize that everyone just has their own taste. We ourselves have our own measures about what we like and what we don’t. And that itself, is the beauty of the universe. If everyone liked everyone and everything, the world would be so chaotic. The agenda is to be ourselves and do what we like and dislike, without being stuck in a rut of pleasing or disappointing others.

Haters gonna hate. But, we should go and love ourselves.
